Conservation agriculture : the challenge of changing widespread farming practices in Madagascar
1. Keep ploughing to a minimum. 2.Mix and rotate crops. 3.Use ground cover. These are the three main principles of conservation agriculture, according to the FAO. In Madagascar today, thousands of farmers benefit from direct sowing techniques on plant cover, thus respecting these principles. On 1 and 2 December, a national symposium was held in Madagascar on the issue of dissemination of these techniques on a large scale.
